Introduction:

FLOOR_ presents its open-call group exhibition, “8x12," from September 24 to November 7. The exhibition features 87 pieces representing a wide range of photography-based artworks by 48 artists from various countries with diverse cultural and artistic backgrounds.

The works shown in the group exhibition include portraits, landscapes, documentaries, and abstract and staged images expressing different stories visually through various methods, using photography as a base medium. Although many components of each work are different, including the artists, subjects, ways of expressing the story, and dates and places that the images were made, all images are the same 8x12 inches in size and placed side by side in a single space to show disparate images as one continuous cluster. By arranging the images in a line on the exhibition space’s walls, we hope that the audience not only experiences each artist’s unique way of seeing and expressing but also creates their own interpretations and new stories about the relationships between unfamiliar images.

전시 소개

플로어는 9월 24일부터 11월 7일까지 공모전에서 선정된 작품들을 모아 그룹전 “8x12”를 선보인다. 이번 전시를 통해 국내외 다양한 문화와 예술적 배경을 가진 48명의 시각예술 작가들의 사진에 기반을 둔 87점의 작품들을 소개하고자 한다.

이번 그룹전에 포함된 작품들은 인물, 사물, 풍경, 다큐멘터리 등뿐만 아니라 추상적인 작업과 연출된 이미지를 포함한 다양한 작업들로 각각 서로 다른 이야기들을 사진이라는 매체를 기반으로 다양한 방식을 통해 시각적으로 표현하고 있다. 각 작품의 작가와 표현 방식, 촬영된 날짜와 장소, 피사체 등 모든 부분이 제각각이지만 모든 이미지를 동일한 8x12 인치 크기로 제작하여 한 공간에 나란히 배치함으로써 이질적인 이미지들을 서로 연결 지어 하나의 연속적인 작업으로 보여주고자 한다. 전시 공간 벽면 전체에 일렬로 배치된 이미지들을 통해 관객들이 작가들의 다양한 시선을 경험하는 것뿐만 아니라 서로 낯선 이미지들 사이의 관계에 대해 자신만의 해석과 새로운 이야기를 만들어나갈 수 있기를 바란다.
